DryBear: Drink Less Tracker for iPhone and iPad · Effective October 15, 2026
Who we are
DryBear is made by Kozmonos ("we", "us"), the operator responsible for the app and for this policy. Contact for privacy questions and requests: support@kozmonos.com. This policy covers the DryBear app for iPhone and iPad and this page.
What DryBear does not collect
- No account, sign-up or password, and no name, e-mail address, phone number or contacts.
- No location from your device's GPS. Your approximate location is only derived from your IP address (see below).
- No advertising, no advertising SDKs, no advertising identifier (IDFA) and no tracking across other companies' apps or websites.
- No server of our own: DryBear has no DryBear account or database on our side. Your calendar is not uploaded to us.
- No data read from Apple Health is sent anywhere. Motion sensor readings (for the jar of marbles) are used on your device only.
What DryBear keeps on your device and in your own cloud
- Your drink calendar (how many drinks you logged on each day, the cost if you enter it), your currency, reminder time and other settings are stored in the app's private storage on your device. The home screen widget reads them on the device.
- Apple Health: only if you turn on Health sync, DryBear writes the drinks you log to Apple Health as alcoholic beverages and reads them back to keep the calendar in step. This stays between DryBear and Health on your device and in your Apple Account; we never receive it.
- iCloud sync: on iOS 17 and later, DryBear keeps a copy of your calendar and settings in your own iCloud account (Apple's private CloudKit database), encrypted by Apple, so it appears on your other devices and survives a new phone. We cannot read it. Earlier versions of DryBear kept a backup file in the app's iCloud folder; DryBear imports it once and deletes it with your data.
- Google Drive backup: only if you connect it in Settings, DryBear keeps the same copy in a hidden app folder in your Google Drive. DryBear can see only that folder, not your other files, and we cannot read it.
- Daily reminders are scheduled by the app on your device.
Information we receive
| What | Examples | Service provider | Kept for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Drinking information | for each day you log: the number of drinks and whether it was a dry day (not the date or the cost); how many drinks you typically have per day, as answered during setup; your total logged days and dry days; your dry-day streak milestones | PostHog | under PostHog's standard retention; see "Keeping and deleting information" |
| App usage events | app starts, setup steps viewed and completed and how long they took, permissions allowed or refused, screens and calendar months opened, days logged or cleared, reminders and Health sync turned on or off, whether you track spending, sharing, the Premium screen shown or closed and trials started | PostHog | as above |
| Identifiers | an identifier made from Apple's identifier for vendor (the same for all Kozmonos apps on one device), used by PostHog to recognise your installation and given to RevenueCat so purchases match the same person; the random customer id RevenueCat assigns to your installation. Neither is your Apple Account or an advertising identifier | PostHog, RevenueCat | as long as the information they are attached to |
| Crash and error reports | where the code failed, app version, the usage events just before it with their values (including drink counts), how long screens took to load, device model, iOS version and your IP address | Sentry | up to 90 days |
| Technical context | device model, iOS version, app version, language, IP address and the approximate location (city, country) derived from it | PostHog, Sentry | as long as the event or report it is sent with |
| Purchase status | the App Store receipt, whether DryBear Premium is active and which plan | RevenueCat | while DryBear Premium is used, and as required for accounting |
How much you drink is health information. We receive these counts only to run and improve DryBear, for example to see whether logging and reminders help people drink less, and never to advertise to you, to sell them or to share them with insurers, employers or anyone else. They are sent as they are, linked to the identifier above, not anonymously.
Why we use it
We use the information above to provide DryBear (reminders, sync and Premium features), to find and fix crashes and errors, to understand which features help people drink less and where they get stuck, and to know whether Premium is active. We do not use it for advertising, we do not sell it, and we do not combine it with data from other companies to build profiles about you.
Who receives it
We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for advertising. The service providers below process it only on our behalf, under their data processing terms:
- PostHog, product analytics (EU hosting): posthog.com/privacy
- Sentry, crash and error reporting: sentry.io/privacy
- RevenueCat, subscription status: revenuecat.com/privacy
- Apple, App Store payments, Apple Health and iCloud sync in your own Apple Account: apple.com/legal/privacy
- Google, only if you connect Google Drive backup: policies.google.com/privacy
We may also disclose information if the law requires it.
Purchases
DryBear Premium is bought through Apple's App Store. Apple handles the payment and never shares your payment details or Apple Account with us.
Keeping and deleting information
- Everything DryBear stored: in DryBear open Settings, This device, and choose Delete account. DryBear deletes the copies in your iCloud and connected Google Drive, the drinks it wrote to Apple Health (when it still has permission), then everything on the device.
- On your device: deleting DryBear removes everything it stored on the device (your iCloud, Google Drive and Health copies stay until you delete them as described here).
- iCloud copy: open Settings, tap your name, then iCloud, Manage Storage (or Manage Account Storage), DryBear, and delete its data.
- Google Drive copy: in Google Drive on the web, open Settings, Manage apps, DryBear, and choose "Delete hidden app data".
- Apple Health: in the Health app, open Browse, Nutrition, Alcoholic Beverages, Data Sources & Access, and delete DryBear's data.
- Crash reports: deleted after at most 90 days.
- Usage information and drinking information: kept only as long as they help us run and improve DryBear, under PostHog's standard retention. We delete them on request (see "Your rights").
- Support e-mails: kept while we help you and deleted within 12 months, sooner on request.
How we protect information
All transfers are encrypted (HTTPS), access to our service accounts is limited to the people who build DryBear, and we review our providers' settings at least once a year. Data on your device, in Apple Health and in iCloud is protected by Apple's built-in security, and the Google Drive copy by your Google account.
Your rights (EU, UK and elsewhere)
You can ask to access, correct or delete information about your use of DryBear, object to its processing, or ask us to restrict it, by writing to support@kozmonos.com. To find your records we may ask for your app version and approximate dates of use. You can also complain to your local data protection authority. Our providers may process data outside your country (for example in the United States); they use the legal safeguards required for such transfers.
Children
DryBear is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has used DryBear and sent us information, contact us and we will delete it.
California
We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
Changes
If we change how DryBear handles information, we will update this page and the date above before the change takes effect, and describe significant changes in the app's update notes.
